About the Supervisor:
Brendan O’Fallon is the Director of Bioinformatics at ARUP. Brendan oversees a group of 10 data scientists, bioinformaticians, and engineers to develop novel algorithms, data analysis and computational pipelines.
Internship Description:
This internship will provide an opportunity for someone interested in machine learning, clinical diagnostics, CLIA requirements and record retention. The intern will work closely with Brendan O’Fallon, Bob Ohgami, and David Ng.
Internship Goals:
Work with team to research novel machine learning applications and algorithms in a data-isolated environment.
Research document storage criteria via CLIA regulations that are outlined in ARUP corporate policies and apply these to our retention needs.
Knowledge, Skills & Techniques Learned from Internship:
This internship is an opportunity for a motivated individual to learn clinical research and project management skills due to the autonomous aspect of the required tasks.
Measurement of New Skills:
The intern will meet weekly with Brendan O’Fallon or David Ng to review progress and performance. The intern will also present work to the applied AI team as needed throughout the course of the internship and at the conclusion to summarize the project.

Physical and Other Requirements:
Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Communicate: Frequently and effectively communicate with others.
PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.
