Summary:
The Behavioral Health Nursing Director will be responsible for overseeing the clinical and operational activities of the adult and adolescent inpatient psychiatric units. This leadership role requires a dynamic and experienced nursing professional with behavioral health experience, who will manage nursing teams, ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care, and drive compliance with regulatory standards. The director will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to promote safe, effective care and support the mental health and substance dependent needs of patients in both inpatient settings.
Responsibilities:
• Leads, coaches, and develops assigned team, including subordinate leaders, in the ongoing, 24/7 operations of a hospital-based nursing unit. Fosters independence and autonomy through the delivery of timely, thorough, and constructive feedback on performance.
• Supports strategic financial goals of organization through administration of defined budget. Participates in budgetary planning process. Recommends capital spending based on preliminary cost-benefit analysis.
• Defines team member skill mix within assigned headcount. Participates in workforce planning in coordination with executive leadership. Administers discretionary financial incentives for labor allocation and planning. Accountable to labor productivity metrics.
• Distills strategic direction nested within own assigned priorities. Defines key performance metrics and goals for operations improvement.
• Maintains and develops documented policies and practices. Facilitates the change process. Accountable to documented requirements for the purposes of accreditation and regulatory authorities.
• Partners with the Quality organization regarding the documentation of and response to patient safety events, including root cause analysis (RCA), implementation of subsequent process changes, and communication to staff.
• Develops cross-functional relationships as a champion of patient care, quality, and nursing professionalism. Collaborates within assigned unit and the hospital at large to support strategic initiatives and goals.
• Fosters and leads a continuous improvement approach to clinical operations for the purposes of efficient, ethical and quality care. Improves care outcomes through evidence-based practices.
Other information:
Required
• Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina or one of compact states
• 5 years of professional nursing experience in an acute care setting
• 2 years of experience in progressive leadership positions in area of related specialty.
• BLS Required
Preferred
• Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN)
• Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (PMH-BC)
• Nurse Executive Board Certification (NE-BC) as administered by the American Nursing Credentialing Association (ANCC)
