The Assistant Operations Manager - Stewarding plays a key role in overseeing and supporting the daily operations of the Stewarding Department. This position ensures that all kitchen and dining areas maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and organization, adhering to health and safety regulations. In addition to managing stewarding operations, this role will also support the Events Operations Managers in coordinating and executing events, ensuring the smooth operation of event-related stewarding needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Supervision: Assist in managing and supervising the stewarding team to ensure proper execution of duties, including dishwashing, cleaning, and maintenance of kitchen and dining areas throughout the hotel.
Cleaning & Maintenance Standards: Ensure all hotel kitchen equipment, tools, and facilities are cleaned and sanitized according to the hotel’s health and safety standards.
Inventory Management: Monitor and track inventory levels for cleaning supplies, dishware, and kitchen equipment, ensuring timely reordering and efficient cost control.
Training & Development: Assist in training new and existing staff on best practices for cleaning and maintaining kitchen areas, proper equipment handling, and safety protocols.
Compliance with Regulations: Ensure the department follows all hotel policies, local health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
Coordination with Other Departments: Work closely with kitchen, front-of-house, housekeeping, and events operations teams to ensure smooth and efficient operations, particularly during peak service hours and hotel events.
Event Support: Provide stewarding support for hotel events, ensuring event-specific requirements (e.g., cleaning, setup, and breakdown) are met in collaboration with the events operations managers.
Problem Solving: Address operational issues within the Stewarding Department or during hotel events, including equipment malfunctions, staffing shortages, or safety concerns.
Quality Control: Regularly inspect areas within the Stewarding Department and hotel kitchens to ensure cleanliness and organization, providing recommendations for improvements.
Administrative Support: Assist with staff scheduling, reporting, and other administrative tasks related to stewarding operations within the hotel.
Qualifications
- A true desire to satisfy the needs of others in a fast-paced environment
- Must be available to work a varying schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays
- Able to push, pull, and lift moderate to heavy weight consistently throughout shift
- Ability to work effectively with multiple departments, particularly in cross-departmental collaboration with the hotel’s events and operations teams.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Knowledge of hotel operations, including cleaning, maintenance, and health and safety standards.
