Duties
As a Supervisory Computer Scientist, you will:
- Provide leadership and direction to the development, implementation and maintenance of integrated information technology hardware and software systems to support the collection, processing, reduction, storage, retrieval, presentation and publication of data for the National Health Care Surveys.
- Define information processing objectives, and oversee the development of information processing logic and documentation, including decision tables, processing flow charts and data edit specifications, record and tape layouts and the content and sequence of data files.
- Serve as senior technical advisor to the Division Director, management and other staff members in matters relating to data processing, computer usage, programming languages, and statistical software related to organizational data.
- Oversee the design, development, preparation and distribution of public use data files and related documentation.
- Work closely with collaborating agencies, contractors, and other organizational Divisions in the exchange of systems and programming information, networking and the resolution of technical problems.
- Develop work plans for the Branch and the staff, prepare and manage the Branch operating budget, and prepare program review documents for submission to the Division Director and Center leadership.
- Delegate and monitor work assignments, and provide guidance and assistance to employees as necessary.
- Attend professional meetings, seminars and conferences related to computer systems, systems analysis and design, data processing hardware and software, and related statistical analysis processes.

Qualifications
All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, which must include the following experience: planning, directing, and executing information technology hardware and software systems to support the collection of national survey and electronic health records (EHR) data collections.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
