Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Nursing Affairs, UM-FERN Student Success Simulation Coordinator will help facilitate the success of students admitted to the grant-funded UM-Flint Educates Rural Nurses (UM-FERN) program. This role will identify ways to maximize student success in the UM-FERN program and facilitate lab, simulation and clinical activities for students in courses within the nursing program.
The UM-FERN Student Success Simulation Coordinator will be integral in facilitating competency-based learning within the UM-FERN program. This position is grant-funded for three years and is expected to end in June 2028.
This position may be required to work early mornings, late evenings, and some weekends as needed.
Responsibilities*
- Serve as a support to UM-FERN students in course lectures in a distance classroom located in the Thumb region of Michigan or UM-Flint on-campus classroom.
- Facilitate distance lab, simulation, and clinical activities for UM-FERN students in the Thumb region as well as support the move to competency-based learning within the nursing programs.
- Meet with UM-FERN students to foster academic success
- Coordinate with faculty, staff, other departments and the school to facilitate student success.
- Analyze student performance indicators.
- Develop and implement an individualized success plan for remediation activities.
- May lift, pull or push up to 80 lbs.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing
- Three or more years of clinical experience in acute patient care
- Three or more years of teaching experience (academia and/or practice)
- Current unencumbered Michigan Registered Nurse License
- Proficient in Microsoft and Google suites
- Must be able to perform all physical aspects of the job with or without reasonable accommodations - May lift, pull or push up to 80 lbs.

Modes of Work
Hybrid:
The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
