Overview:

The R&D Team at SharkNinja is looking for dynamic, creative, talented, inspirational, and committed Senior Sustainability Mechanical Engineer to help deliver an extraordinary pipeline of new, environmentally advanced products.

SharkNinja is committed to reducing our environmental impacts and is seeking a creative problem solver to advance the development of low carbon products. This individual possesses an intuitive grasp of physics and engineering fundamentals, is equally comfortable hacking together a prototype in the lab or analyzing the results of a test, and is passionate about solving the tough engineering challenges required to deliver environmentally sustainable product innovations to market.

This role calls for an experienced hands-on engineer who has a deep understanding of energy efficiency and sustainable material technologies, a natural curiosity and creativity on how to leverage them in new ways, and an ability to collaborate cross functionally with engineering and product development teams to help bring these products to market.

EXCITING things you’ll get to do:

  • Actively support the development of sustainable consumer products by identifying lower impact opportunities and using hands-on design skills, testing and problem solving to demonstrate the feasibility of your solutions.
  • Investigate and identify both commercially available and next generation technologies to greatly improve the energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of key products
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Product Development teams daily to rapidly progress the understanding of systems, environmental performance levers, and tradeoffs
  • Bring together team members from other disciplines to brainstorm, solve problems, build proof-of-concept prototypes, and test them thoroughly
  • Work closely with and guide co-ops and interns
  • See the culmination of your efforts with the team come to life on the shelf in stores, online, and in infomercials through products with a reduced carbon footprint

Attributes and Skills:

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of related experience in design and development
  • Demonstrated ability to bring enabling energy efficiency and environmentally responsible technologies into innovative products in the market
  • Solid analytical skills, a methodical mindset with strong attention to detail, and relentless drive to identify potential problems and take responsibility for their resolution
  • Skilled communicator able to explain working principles, synthesize data into learnings and the impact to design choices, and make recommendations to both technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Awareness of global eco legislation for consumer products and how products can be future proofed through design
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting with various test equipment and instrumentation conducting controlled experiments on something you have designed and built
  • Proficient CAD user, Solidworks or CREO
  • Organized, skilled using Excel, Python, or Matlab (or similar programs) to synthesize test data into learnings
  • Enjoys fostering meaningful professional relationships with colleagues
  • Due to the hands-on nature of the role working closely with a team, this role is an in-person role at our Needham, MA office

Preferred Attributes:

  • Previous experience in an applied R&D role working for a consumer product company or a consultant company
  • Experience with electronics (analog/digital), related test equipment, and components common in small appliances (sensors, motors, heaters, PCBAs, etc.)
  • Understanding of applied fluid mechanics and heat transfer
  • Experience in product design and development including designing and executing an experimental test plan to guide design decisions
  • Comfortable multitasking and responding quickly to shifting priorities without losing sight of longer-term projects and goals
  • Experience working with external experts or consultancies
