WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview):
We are currently seeking an innovative recovery professional to serve as a Senior Community Recovery Manager for the LA Wildfires Long-Term Recovery Operation in California.
Preference will be given to candidates from the communities of Altadena, Pasadena or Sierra Madre. This is a term-limited, benefits eligible position expected to last 24 months from date of the disaster with the opportunity to extend based on business need. This is a remote position with frequent travel to impacted communities will be required.
On January 8, 2025, the Los Angeles Wildfires, stoked by the Santa Ana winds, eventually burned large swaths of highly urbanized sections of Los Angeles County. As January draws to a close, the two massive fires that destroyed more than 16,000 structures in California are nearly extinguished, but for those impacted, recovery is just beginning. The American Red Cross is working around the clock to support impacted households, and alongside our partners, we’ll continue to be there for months and years to come.
The American Red Cross is standing up a long-term recovery program to support impacted communities, providing recovery programming and services to individuals, households, and communities affected by these wildfires.
The salary range for this position is $97,120. -$105,00.Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role.
This job will be posted for a minimum of five business days and extended if the applicant pool needs to be expanded.
WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):
• Direct, coordinate, manage and support community recovery staff. Produce plans and reports as required.
• Supporting the grants, individual resilience, preparedness efforts to maximize reach and impact in vulnerable communities.
• Working in partnership with community leaders and stakeholders to
• Conduct community assessments to understand the impact of the storm, response and recovery efforts to date, and assess the gaps between needs and resources.
• Conduct strategic planning for community recovery interventions and facilitate meetings and broker action among multiple community sectors;
• Manage and direct outreach activities such as establishing contacts and attending community meetings;
• Direct the establishment and maintaining effective working relationships with community agencies, schools, businesses, various levels of government and the public.
• Monitoring progress through collecting data– both qualitative and quantitative.
• Ensure that American Red Cross and partner services are available to diverse communities.
• Communication and coordination of external activities with internal Red Cross departments (Disaster Cycle Services, Service to the Armed Forces, Chapter Executive Directors, etc.) to ensure a common operating picture is shared.
• Other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):
Education: Bachelor’s degree required
Experience: Minimum 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
Management Experience: 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
Skills & Abilities: Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of program or service and ability to create presentations and develop training modules. Develop project plans, budgets, and strategies to achieve organizational goals. Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills to develop creative processes for continuous program or service improvements. Proven track record of collaboration, facilitation, problem solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership
management. Ability for planning, public speaking, project management and process improvement required. Must be customer oriented, organized, and able to operate with an orientation toward solutions with an external focus, and team orientation. Intermediate level proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Familiarity with federal, state, and local employment laws. Must be able to perform all assigned responsibilities under “grey sky” requirements. Ensure all American Red Cross finance policies and procedures are followed as related to the scope of work activity. Ability to
work on a team.
Deployment Requirement: Disaster employees are required to deploy to disaster relief operations outside of their region at a minimum of once a year. Deployments contribute to skill building, career development and exposure to different types of disasters. Employees must meet all training and physical capacity requirements for deployment. Must have a Valid Driver’s License

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones
and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
