Security Operations Center Operator
Job Description
The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA is seeking candidates for the Security Operations Center (SOC) Operator position. SOC Operators monitor computer-driven access control, surveillance, and life-safety systems throughout the museum campus. The SOC also coordinates incident response with alarm service vendors, emergency responders and in-house security staff. Additional duties include maintaining daily activity logs, filing incident reports, operational and performance tests of relevant systems, and basic maintenance of control center equipment.
SOC operators must have a strong working knowledge of security field operations in order to successfully coordinate effective response procedures. Operators will therefore also be regularly assigned to field posts where they will interact with the public, conduct area inspections, and perform other duties as assigned to maintain the physical security of museum spaces. Successful candidates will have strong written and verbal communication skills, an acumen with technical concepts, and an assertive yet professional demeanor. The ability to remain calm under pressure and exercise well-reasoned discretion is essential.
An Associate’s degree in a related field (or an equivalent of education and work-related experience) is required and a minimum of two years of relevant experience is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and common network communication platforms like email, cloud storage in particular Google Workspace is desired. Must be able to work for extended periods on foot and be able to be seated for extended periods as well.
This is a temporary position with 12-hour shifts for the duration of approximately 10 months. The regular hours of this position are 7am to 7pm, with occasional 7pm to 7am shifts as needed. Initial training is generally conducted during the day shift from 7am to 7pm, with occasional 11am-11pm hours dedicated to understanding overnight responsibilities. The schedule includes weekends, evenings, holidays, and extended shifts. The pay range for this position is $19.00 to $19.71 per hour commensurate with experience.
