Plant Field Services Technician – Electrical

This position will be located at the Macon Office (Macon, GA.) or Plant Scherer
SUMMARY OF POSITION
This position will primarily support the following sites: Plants Scherer, Robins CT, Plant Addison, Plant Dahlberg, Central GA. Hydro (Lloyd Shoals, Sinclair, and Wallace Dams), Chattahoochee Hydro (Flint River), GPC Solar (4 sites locally), SPC-GA solar (Taylor County – 4 sites, Decatur County – 2 sites) and utility support to Coastal GA. for 3 GPC Gas & Oil sites (McIntosh CC and CT, McManus, and Wilson) and 3 GPC military solar sites.
Primary duties will include:
- Protective relay calibration (both digital and analog relay systems)
- Battery and DC system maintenance activities
- Meter calibration (including indicating and revenue meters)
- Transformer device testing
- General electrical system design, commissioning, modification, and troubleshooting
PROJECTED WORKLOAD & TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS
- Primary responsibility would be maintenance testing of protective relays and metering systems during plant shutdowns. Other duties will include backup support for battery maintenance testing, metering calibration, and transformer device testing.
- Overtime work will be required periodically to support customer schedules.
- Some travel within the southeast will be required. Expected travel requirements will be approximately 50% including overnight away from home.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Associates degree or two-year technical school preferred.
Experience
- Experience in electrical controls, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with electrical test equipment and device calibration.
- Highly desirable abilities would be experience with legacy and microprocessor-based testing protective relays.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Working knowledge basic electrical control systems.
- Familiarity with metering and protection systems, batteries, chargers, and inverters.
- High degree of familiarity with electrical test equipment and procedures.
- Good understanding of mechanical concepts.
- Knowledge of basic engineering mathematics.
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Ability to use basic computer applications.
