Position Summary:
The CNS Disease Biology Group is seeking a skilled candidate to participate in an internship (8 – 12 weeks) to assist with our drug discovery and assay development efforts. The selected candidate will conduct lab-based behavioral neuroscience research utilizing in vivo rodent behavior models. The goal of this paid internship is to provide a young scientist with the opportunity to learn and take part in drug discovery research.
Responsibilities
Essential Areas of Responsibility:
The intern will work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to conduct their own project, gaining exposure to experimental techniques and theories relevant to CNS disorders. This project will include multiple aspects of in vivo research, including animal handling, necropsy, assay development and validation, and statistical analysis. Key responsibilities include daily animal handling, running of rodent behavioral assays, basic data management and visualization, establishing a working knowledge of relevant laboratory techniques, contributing to wider scientific discussion, and preparing scientific presentations.

Basic Qualifications:
Education & Experience Requirements:
- A Junior or Senior Undergraduate Student, or recent (1-2 years) graduate, with research experience in biology, pharmacology, neuroscience or related fields is required.
Required Skills:
- Proficiency handling rodents.
- An understanding of appropriate experimental design and statistical analysis.
- Good presentation and oral/written communication skills.
- The ability to work and thrive in a collaborative environment.
- Outstanding initiative to learn new techniques and procedures
Preferred Skills:
While training will be provided for the selected intern, the following skills are highly desirable:
- Ability to search and interpret scientific literature surrounding CNS disorders.
- Experience with open-field locomotion and/or operant conditioning models in rodents
- Prior experience with rodent dosing, specifically subcutaneous
- Experience performing basic ex-vivo tissue processing techniques
- Ability to work in our Waltham location
