What's the role?
The Freight Trader position offers the opportunity to join Shell Global Crude Freight Trading Team with its challenging, dynamic and fast paced Physical and Paper Freight Trading business environment. The role also offers the ability to develop cutting edge, innovative analysis models to gain the most accurate forward view of the crude freight markets. At the trader level this role contributes to create paper trading strategies and take/manage physical chartering positions backed by innovative analysis models.
The role is expected to:
- Work closely with Shell's Global Trading Network (GTN) for Crude by providing a first class and competitive freight service besides P&L accountability.
- Manage physical and paper freight trading positions in support of the freight team goals/targets, while also utilising paper trading tools for exposure management.
- Work with oil trading desks to seek optimal logistics solutions in wet and paper freight trading. Self-starter and proactive in looking for opportunities.
- Shell's Freight Deal & Voyage Management system must always be kept fully updated and to meet compliance requirement on timely deal entry. Close contact must be maintained with the finance / compliance teams to ensure trading practices are in full compliance at all times as per Shell's Code of Conduct.
- Liaise with counterparties (owners/brokers/charterers) around the world and therefore with varying time differences. Good networking skill and to establish good professional relationships with Charterers and Owners.
- Trading environment requires ability to work under pressure is an extremely important attribute to have. It must be understood that working hours are not standard.
What we need from you
- Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis
- 3 or more years of Freight Trading experience with P&L accountability is preferred
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience
- Trading and shipping operational knowledge including loading and discharging of ships, liaising with customers and knowledge of cargoes etc. are desirable. An awareness / understanding of paper instruments utilized for hedging and speculative trading would be valuable
- Highly numeric, quick thinking and possesses good data analytics capability.
- Must be a self-starter, works well under pressure, able to multi-task and is a team player
- Knowledge of Freight Deal and Voyage Management system is an added advantage.
The base salary range for this position is $160,000 - $240,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 3 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.
Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
