Summary:
The Courtesy Shuttle Driver will operate 5 passenger, ADA wheelchair-accessible passenger mini-vans on and in the immediate vicinity of the Wayne UNC Health Care campus. Driver will operate shuttle van along a pre-determined route around campus during the hours directed by the Police Chief and/or Administrative Director, Facility Services, and/or the Executive Leadership team. Driver shall proactively assist each customer by safely securing and exiting the vehicle, providing direct assistance to customers as they board/de-board the van, and deliver customers to either pre-determined stop areas or other areas on campus as needed by the customer. Driver will always provide friendly, cordial interactions with customers. Driver will also be responsible for operating and maintaining the courtesy shuttle van professionally, safely, and shall maintain the vehicle in clean condition.
Responsibilities:
1. Proactively approaches any potential customer seen along route and cordially offers assistance with transport.
2. Maintains clean and orderly vans, checking for trash, lost personal items or other debris and cleaning periodically during each shift as needed and following prescribed cleaning schedules.
3. Performs daily inspections of vehicle and equipment as prescribed, and maintains activity and maintenance logs as directed.
4. Transports passengers via fixed route with scheduled pick-up and drop-off locations, as prescribed.
5. Assists all guests with boarding and de-boarding.
6. Communicates by cell phone, two-way radio, and in person in a courteous, friendly, and professional manner with all guests and teammates.
7. Operates wheelchair ramp and secures anchoring devices as instructed.
8. Is willing and able to work outside in all weather conditions.
9. Reports all operational and/or safety issues with vehicle immediately to Chief, Campus Police.
10. Must maintain clean driving record and be willing to submit Department of Motor Vehicle License Checks, Criminal Background Checks, and Drug Screens at least annually, and periodically as required. Must meet the requirements of the Hospital’s insurance carrier at all times.
11. Must notify Campus Police Chief no later than next business day of all personal traffic accidents and/or moving violations.
12. Must notify Campus Police Chief immediately (same shift, before leaving current shift) of all accidents, moving violations, customer complaints and/or vehicle equipment malfunctions.

Education
High school diploma or GED required.
Licensure/Certification
Valid North Carolina Driver License required. License must be clean/unrestricted and meet the requirements of the Hospital’s insurance carrier at all times.
Experience
One or more years of bus driver, school bus driver, church bus driver, wheelchair van driver, or any other passenger transport driver experience desired, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to operate vehicle safely and in compliance with all traffic laws.
• Good customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
• Basic proficiency with MS Office required.
Valid NC Driver’s License: Yes
If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
