Job Description Summary

The Corporate Counsel will play a critical role in providing comprehensive legal support and risk analysis to internal business teams. Reporting to the VP, Legal, this position will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement risk-mitigating strategies that align with and further the company's business objectives. The ideal candidate will possess strong legal acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to navigate complex legal and regulatory environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contract Management
    • Work with business partners to draft, review, and negotiate commercial and marketing contracts to support U.S. operations, increasing efficiency and speed of legal reviews, ensuring legal input is available.
    • Summarize any deviations to standard company terms for approval by a supervising attorney.
    • Liaise with cross-functional partners to update and maintain the contracts management database.
    • Provide support for business and legal audits as needed.
  • Marketing and Promotional Review
    • Participate in the review of product packaging, advertising, and marketing materials, including promotions, print and digital ads, and social media.
    • Assist with cause marketing programs, contracts, and registrations.
    • Attend brand and marketing-related meetings.
    • Support teams with claim substantiation.
  • Compliance
    • Support global compliance initiatives in the U.S.
    • Manage compliance investigations as needed.
    • Improve, develop, and implement legal and compliance processes, procedures, and training.
  • Other
    • Conduct legal research and analysis as needed.
    • Provide relevant legal training to business teams.
    • Assist with dispute resolution and crisis management as requested.
    • Perform other duties, including administrative tasks, as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum degree and experience:

  • Law Degree required (JD)
  • Member in good standing of a US bar
  • 3 – 5 years of attorney experience
  • In-house Legal or Corporate Counsel experience strongly preferred

  • Legal and Business Acumen: Strong knowledge of legal and business principles, providing informed and strategic advice.
  • Ownership Mindset: Demonstrates a strong sense of ownership, following through and completing assigned projects with diligence.

Working Conditions

Work is performed largely in an office environment. Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours with at least 40 hours a week. At times there will be some variation in work hours due to special projects, deadlines and other concerns. Up to 10% business travel may be required.

Total Rewards:

  • Base Salary: $130,000 - $150,000
  • Bonus opportunity: 20%
  • 401k, Medical, Dental, Vision from Day One, PTO days and more
  • Hybrid work schedule in New York
