WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Communications Manager (NY) manages and implements focused communication and/or marketing tactics that facilitate understanding, adoption and advancement of the organization's goals and objectives. They will be a part of the New York Division marketing team and will report to the Associate Director.

This Communications Manager is responsible for creating and executing the strategic Internal communications for the New York Division and the communications with our Volunteer Leaders, primarily the New York Board of Trustees (Board). You will be plugged-in to all the work that's taking place across the Division so that you can create compelling and motivating updates for the wider Division and Volunteer Leaders. You will research, write and distribute a wide variety of communication materials including but not limited to: Executive Director emails, talking points and remarks, Division-wide newsletters, Intranet updates, Volunteer Leader emails, reports and presentations, Town Hall agendas, special event flyers, strategic plans and more. You will manage a host of logistics and interconnected moving parts and pieces. You will become a trusted confidant of the New York Executive Director and New York Executive Team in order to advise them and gain approval on your work. You will serve as a partner to the entire New York Division in order to develop communications that satisfy their evolving needs.

As the Communications Manager (NY), you will have the following responsibilities:

INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and oversee the internal communications 'task force' to create the monthly newsletter, plan for activities throughout the year, and update the Intranet. Ensures all elements are executed without error.
  • Develop agendas, remarks, and presentation for the quarterly Town Halls. Prepare spokespeople and coordinates day-of logistics.
  • Develop plans to help staff be better informed, empowered and united.
  • Design and execute engaging opportunities to roll-out information to the entire Division across a range of topics including conservation, fundraising and marketing updates.
  • Serve on the planning committee for the All-Division retreat.
  • Create special branding/look and feel for special events like retreat communications.

BOARD & VOLUNTEER LEADERS COMMUNICATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the process for and lead on the creation of the presentations for all Board meetings and other supporting events (like special sessions)following specific instructions, look and feel, and design expectations.
  • Lead on drafting presentation remarks by drawing on updates from colleagues throughout the New York Division and across the wider Conservancy. Revise presentation deck and remarks until final and approved
  • Prepare any guest speakers ahead of meetings and coordinate the review and sign off of their content by the Executive Director
  • Lead on drafting Board materials such as pre- and post-meeting updates and ad-hoc email updates
  • Act as a thought partner to our Board liaison in coming up with new and improved ways to communicate with the Board and increase engagement
  • Work with the Executive Director and Board liaison to identify, develop and send timely updates that should be sent to the NY Board of Trustees, Leadership Council and past Chapter Trustees, often working quickly to respond to a "moment" or event.
  • Maintain the Mail Chimp email lists and databases and track engagement rates; use the data to inform future engagements.
  • Identify new ways to connect with Board of Trustees and keep them engaged (e.g., LinkedIn, Board Book, etc.)
  • Propose new ideas for modern communications approaches and bring forward innovative ideas and opportunities for the Executive Team to consider.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and implement projects.
  • Responsibility and accountability for meeting assigned project goals and objectives.
  • Serve as lead on assigned projects.
  • Resolve issues independently within program area.
  • Opportunity to act independently within program goals.
  • May work with vendors/other parties to execute projects/deliverables.
  • Occasional travel is required for business meetings, team retreats, and/or training.
  • Other related duties as assigned

WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU

The ideal candidate will have all or some of these qualifications. If you don't have all of them, apply anyway and tell us about your skills and experience:

  • Experience working directly with executive leaders including writing, editing and proofreading for an executive.
  • Ability to design PPT, posters, flyers, etc. easily and beautifully in Canva or PPT.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Has a bias for action and takes initiative and anticipates questions and necessary research and next steps.
  • Knowledge and application of current and evolving trends in relevant discipline.
  • Experience measuring communication and engagement plans/strategies.
  • Familiarity with communication technologies and best practices.
  • Multi-lingual skills appreciated.
  • Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience preferred.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • Bachelor's degree in related field and a minimum of 5 years' related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience cultivating and managing client relationships.
  • Experience organizing and coordinating multiple projects.
  • Experience writing, editing, and proofreading.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $58,000- $88,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
