Position Description
The Accounting Clerk supports tax compliance and financial accounting activities by performing clerical and routine accounting tasks for a team of 35+ accountants. Key responsibilities include assembling and e-filing tax returns, scanning and processing financial documents, and managing electronic records. The role requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, with tax filing experience preferred. This position operates in an office environment with occasional high-volume workloads, particularly during peak filing seasons.
Responsibilities
- Assemble, e-file, and mail federal and state tax returns
- Prepare mailing labels for state/federal tax filings
- Assume responsibility for ensuring executed documents are properly saved within document management system
- Scan and process tax refund checks
- Scan and log tax notices
- Prepare routine tax notice responses and prepare requests for related payments
- Scan and save other tax and accounting information received within document management system and notify appropriate team members
- Assist in creating consolidated PDF workpaper documents to streamline tax compliance process
- Prepare UPS and certified mailings
- Send paper documents for signature via UPS
- Route electronic documents for signature via DocuSign
- Open and sort mail
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree preferred
- 2+ years of applicable experience strongly preferred
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Familiarity and comfort with electronic files and document management systems
- Effective Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to handle significant volume and manage stress during peak of filing season
- Tax filing experience preferred but not required
