Full Job Description
The City of Chesapeake's Public Works Department is seeking a detail-oriented Accountant I to join our team. This role is responsible for performing essential accounting functions and providing financial support to personnel within the department.

- Analyze financial accounts and transactions for accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare, process, and review financial data, invoices, and reports.
- Maintain and reconcile various financial records, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Assist in budget monitoring and financial forecasting.
- Provide accounting support to departmental personnel and assist with inquiries.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Makes recommendations for plans, implements, and/or administers account resolutions and related activities.
- Coordinates and participates in the processing of account related information such as budget preparation, year end, payroll, accounts receivable, and/or accounts payable.
- Prepares and maintains various financial reports.
- Verifies, monitors, and reconciles accounts.
- Collects, enters, updates, and maintains account information.
- Interacts with staff, different departments, and/or external agencies to ensure accuracy of accounts, responds to inquiries, and provides accounting support.
- Supervises assigned personnel, including training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, and discipline.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
